Able, Gifted and Talented
Broadlands Academy endeavours to support all students to achieve their full potential, regardless of background or starting point.
All students are assessed at the start of Year 7 and then set appropriate targets to achieve. Targets are set with milestones to be achieved by the end of each academic year which helps to indicate whether a student is meeting expectations in their different subjects. This helps us to put appropriate interventions in place to support an individual students progress.
The Academy recognises that there are a large percentage of our students who arrive at the Academy having already achieved a Level 5 or higher in their KS2 SATs. A number of these students will quickly be identified as having particular skills or abilities which require additional support and challenge to enable a student to achieve their full-potential.
Our Able, Gifted and Talented programme is a means to ensuring that all identified learners receive the support and challenge in their learning that they need.
Able students have the potential or capability to develop expertise in one or more areas of learning or performance.
Gifted students have the ability to excel academically in one or more subjects such as English, Maths, Science and Information Technology.
Talented are described as having the ability to excel in practical skills such as Sport, leadership or artistic performance.
At the heart of our Able, Gifted and Talented programme is quality teaching which aims to develop positive behaviours for learning including thinking, questioning, confidence and independence for all our students.
The principles that underpin our Able, Gifted and Talented programme are:
Within every lesson, there are opportunities for all students to extended, challenged and supported to achieve their targets.
